Current time 14:43 local, 09:13 GMT | Match begins in: 0:17
Hong Kong Squad
Tanwir Afzal*, Aizaz Khan, Anshuman Rath, JJ Atkinson†, Babar Hayat, RJ Campbell, C Carter†, MS Chapman, Haseeb Amjad, A Mehmood, Nadeem Ahmed, Nizakat Khan, KD Shah, Waqas Barkat, Waqas Khan
Zimbabwe Squad
H Masakadza*, TL Chatara, CJ Chibhabha, E Chigumbura, TS Chisoro, WP Masakadza, PJ Moor, T Mupariwa, R Mutumbami†, T Panyangara, V Sibanda, Sikandar Raza, DT Tiripano, MN Waller, SC Williams

2:30pm: Hong Kong win the toss and choose to bowl.

Tanwir Afzal: The pitch looks good. We would like to chase it down. Campbell is a big boost in the batting line-up. It looks strong and hope we deliver.

So, at 44 years and 30 days, Campbell becomes the oldest T20I debutant.

Hamilton Masakadza: I was probably going to bowl first as well. It looks good for batting, though. Hopefully I continue the form and get some runs on board.

Zimbabwe XI: H Masakadza, V Sibanda, R Mutumbami, S Williams, M Waller, S Raza, E Chigumbura, D Tiripano, T Panyangara, W Masakadza, T Chatara

Hong Kong XI: J Atkinson, R Campbell, B Hayat, M Chapman, A Rath, N Khan, K Shah, T Afzal, A Khan, H Amjad, N Ahmed

Ganesh Tiwari: "World Cup qualifiers have provided a great platform for the development of Associates."

Jugnu: "I have this feeling that the qualifying stage would be more exciting than the actual WC. May the best teams qualify."

Samrat Ahuja: "Where is Brendon Taylor???" --- He has retired from Zimbabwe cricket, having taken the Kolpak route

2:15pm: Zimbabwe have a comeback story of their own. The unusual action, the jump, the load on the back foot/wrong foot; Zimbabwe's fastest bowler Tendai Chatara is back and is ready to put a broken shin behind him. Toss in about 15 minutes.

2pm: Hong Kong, who had shocked Bangladesh in 2014, are quite an attractive package as well. Born to a father from New Zealand and a Chinese mother, Chapman became the second-youngest batsman to notch up a century on ODI debut. At the other end of the spectrum is the oldest player at tournament - Ryan Campbell - who just turned 44 a few weeks back.

Hmm, Campbell and Baz had made their ODI debuts in the same match in 2002. Baz has walked into the sunset, and Campbell is poised to become the oldest T20I debutant. Yes, T20 is a theatre.

Tim Wigmore has more on the former Australia wicketkeeper-batsman's unlikely comeback.

Kaustubh Barve: "Why is the guy who once scored 194* - Charles Coventry not in the squad? Also, it's his birthday today." --- He played for Zimbabwe in Pakistan and later at home against India, but has been ignored since

1:50pm: The big blockbusters are a week away, but these qualifiers can be fun as well. The last time Zimbabwe and Hong Kong met, in a warm-up game ahead of the last World T20 in Bangladesh, a last-ball thriller unfurled. Zimbabwe may have been depleted by injuries to Cremer, Jongwe, and Madziva at this WT20, but they are still the favourites from Group B, at least according to Hong Kong captain Tanwir Afzal.

Siddartha Khand: "Good luck to the teams for qualifiers. The work has begun nice and early for the WT20. Still an hour or so to go for the first ball." -- Cheers, mate

Amaan: "Good to see the enthusiasm for the World T20 qualifiers. Let the party begin."

Firdose Moonda sets up the scene in the preview.

1:45pm: The World Twenty20 is a theatre. Drama, lapses comebacks, jailbreaks. It has seen football-esque shootouts as well. 16 teams. 35 matches. For this. Good afternoon and welcome to ESPNcricinfo's ball-by-ball coverage of the tournament opener, featuring Zimbabwe and Hong Kong.
